Cement import into Russia in the 1st half of 2016
Cement is one of the basic building materials. Despite the impressive volume of domestic production, Russia also buys cement abroad. Analysis of customs database selection for the period of January-June 201 has obtained the following results.
Russia takes the 7-8th position on cement production, as well as Turkey. The 5-6th position belongs to Vietnam and Iran. PRC takes the first position in the world market for many years, more than 2 billion tons of cement a year are produced in this country, whereas in Russia it is more than 60 mil. tons.
Even with such a picture, Russia imports cement. Although at the beginning of 2016 the material delivery in the country decreased by 10% compared with the same period of the previous year. According to experts, it is the consequence of the crisis.
Due to the statistics, the most of building materials was imported from Belarus, but in 2015 shipments fell sharply.
The major regions consuming the biggest amount of imported cement is Kaliningrad Oblast, St. Petersburg and Pskov Oblast are not far behind. More than 50% of the imported cement is delivered to the country by sea.
Dynamics of imports in January-June 2016
The volume of imported building material. For six months of 2016 Russia imported more than 175 000 tons. The peak of 60 thousand tons was imported in February. The lowest cement purchases fall in April - just over 10 thousand tons. Change in cost. It was paid more than 3.5 million dollars for building material in the second month (for 59 295 tons), while in May 3,357,540 USD was paid for 15640 tons.

Commodity structure of import of cement
The types of cement and their relevance. The most popular among Russians is portland cement - 56%, then - white portland cement, unpainted or artificially colored - 21%, the third position - clinker cement (18%), the fourth ranked aluminous cement (5%). Hydraulic cements are practically not imported into Russia.

Import of cement by countries of origin
Originating countries: Lithuania - 26%, Korea - 23%, Turkey - 17%, Latvia - 11%. Less than 10% of imported cement is delivered from Iran, China, Egypt and Norway. Most of Russian funds were spent on the purchase of Turkish cement. More than 3 million USD was paid for 27 000 tons. While almost 2 million USD was paid for over 41 000 tons of construction material from Lithuania.
