Import of coffee to Russia in 2010-2012
Coffee is invigorating and energy drink made of roasted coffee tree grains. Coffee became very popular in Europe in XVI century, a while later coffee houses were opened also in Russia. Modern people cannot imagine their morning without a cup of flavory coffee; therefore this product is being always imported. We will analyse scopes of deliveries of import coffee to Russia during the period of 2010 - 2012.
1. Total amount and dynamics of import of coffee to Russia in 2010-2012.
Coffee became one of the most popular drinks and is in big demand in many countries of the world including Russia.
Volume of coffee delivered to Russia in 2010-2012 is quite stable and makes up about 20-25 thousand tons per quarter.
The average price of import coffee has a little increased in 2011 and in the1st quarter of 2012 which was connected with bad harvest of certain sorts. This is the reason of rise in prices for other kinds of coffee.

2. Import of coffee according to types
Let's review what sorts and types of coffee are imported to Russia in more details. Many people are mistaken when saying all sorts of coffee taste the same and have the same composition. It is not so. For example,"Robusta coffee" has almost twice caffeine compared to "Arabica"; and "Arabica" has 60 % more different oils.
The most popular are these two coffee sorts: "Arabica" (39 %) and "Robusta coffee" (49 %). Let's see how the situation with imported coffee sorts during the period of 2010-2012 has changed: import of "Arabica" sort is stable - 40 thousand tons a year on the average. The demand for "Robusta coffee" has increased from 46 thousand tons in 2010 to 60 thousand tons in 2012

3. Countries of origin of coffee
Three countries leading in coffee import are Vietnam (29 %), Brazil (19 %) and Indonesia (11 %).
Brazil has been always considered as the key world supplier of high-quality coffee, but it takes only the 2nd place in the rating, because the price for 1 ton exceeds the price of coffee from Vietnam two times.
Indonesia is also famous for high-quality coffee sorts, but the price for 1 ton is quite high as well.
Thus we can conclude that import coffee from Vietnam meets all requirements of the Russian importers in price-quality ratio.
Import from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Germany compared to the countries listed above is very low, only 2-3 %, because of the high price for a ton.
The volume of imported coffee within 2010-2012 is as follows: in 2010 the volume of imported coffee was quite stable from all biggest departure-countries. In the period of 2011-2012, the volume of imported coffee from Vietnam and Indonesia has considerably increased, and from Brazil - has decreased.

4.Customs regulations
In connection with the fact that almost 80 % of import coffee are brought to Russia by sea, logically that biggest part of coffee is imported via the Baltic customs (more than 150 thousand tons in 2010-2012), and Novorossisk customs (more than 90 thousand tons in 2010-2012). In percents, more than 50 % of coffee are imported via the Baltic customs, 31 % - via Novorossisk, and less than 20 % via other customs.

5. Transport structure of coffee import
Let's consider what types of transport are used for delivery of coffee to Russia. Almost 80 % of coffee are delivered by sea, and this indication did not vary within 2010-2012. Since the main coffee-suppliers are Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia, it is logical that a sea vessel is the most wide spread transport for delivery to Russia.
Road transport takes the second place - (16 %), railway (5 %) - the third -.

6. Rating of coffee importers
More than 600 legal bodies and individual entrepreneurs took part in coffee import to Russia in 2010-2012. The most of them has not great import volumes. Ten leading coffee importers have imported almost 300 thousand tons in 2010-2012, and the remaining importers - less than 50 thousand tons.
